- Andrew Calica was drafted in the 11th round of the 2016 draft out of UC Santa Barbra.
- I was lucky enough to snag him prior to him getting drafted when USB came rolling through Hawaii in 2016.
- Since going pro he has moved steadily through the system, advancing at least a level every season and ending 2018 in AA.
- His numbers in AA Akron were…awesome: .278/.389/.375 with 6 HR. He also had 27 stolen bases.
AA tends to be a hurdle for players since the competition at this level is so much more advanced. Clearly, Calica had no problems and should start his 2019 campaign in AAA. If he keeps doing what he is doing I would not be shocked to see him called up at some point this season. He looks like a prototypical center fielder, though I would not be surprised to see him carve out a long career as a 4th outfielder.
