The 2014 pitching staff was…just so bad.
Corey Kluber was great. He went 18-9 with a 1.095 WHIP and 160 ERA+ over 235 innings and won the Cy Young. You can see the potential was there…Carassco was showing positive signs of life, Bauer pitched like a solid #3 or #4, and Salazar was still striking out guys. But in 2014 there were not quite ready to be a unit.
It was also sad to see that the Justin Masterson era had come to an end. I thought the dude would play a major role on the Indians staff when they reentered their contention window. He was young, talented, and at worst seemed like he would be a very dependable #3 pitcher.
