If you are a Cleveland fan, you always knew that Civale would be good. He just needed to stay healthy. In 2021, before the injury bug bit him, he was having a borderline Cy Young Award season, going 12-5 with a 112 ERA+. This season, healthy again, he went 5-2 with a 180 ERA+ for the Guardians before being traded to the Rays for IF prospect Kyle Manzardo. With the Rays, Civale has continued his strong season, going 2-1 with a 131 ERA+.

Civale is only 28 years old and doesn’t have a ton of mileage on his arm. There is a good chance that he will become one of the better pitchers in the American League for the next couple of seasons. If Manzardo develops, this trade won’t be bad at all. If he doesn’t? I would rather not think about it.
