Albert Belle had a very impressive career. It was short and loud…but impressive.
When I saw this card I jumped on it. The 2013 Topps Museum Collection is easily one of the most attractive autograph sets out there…and the card costs about half what I would have to pay at a private signing.
- Albert Belle was a 2nd round pick of the Indians in 1987 out of Louisiana State University.
- Spent 12 seasons in the big leagues and retired with a line of .295/.369/.564, good for an OPS+ of 144 and 40.1 WAR.
- He had 381 career home runs, placing him 70th all time.
- Belle led the league in home runs once and RBI three times.
- Was selected to five All-Star Teams, and also won five Silver Sluggers.
- Finished in the Top 10 for MVP voting five times–and three times was in the Top 3
Unfortunately for Belle, a degenerative hip disease derailed his career and he was out of baseball by 2001.
