Collectors Choice. I am not sure why, but they are some of my favorite looking cards of the 90’s, and assuming the photo works, some of my favorite cards to get signed.
Bobby Witt spent 16-seasons in the big leagues. He was a grinder, and along with guys like Rusty Greer, Juan Gonzalez and Ivan Rodriguez epitomized the hard-nosed Texas Rangers teams of the mid-to-late 2000’s. His peripherals were sometimes rough–Witt would only have an ERA+ north of 100 four times in his caree–but he was was a prototypical innings eater who averaged 202 IP a season. And that grinding would be rewarded with seven seasons of double-digit wins, including a 17-win season in 1990 and 16-win season in 1996.
I also totally forgot that Witt did spent the 2000 season with Cleveland. Signed as a free agent before the season, injuries would limit him to only 15 innings with the Tribe. He ended the season with a 7.63 ERA. Not great. It would be second to last season in the majors before retiring.
