In 1983 the Indians traded Len Barker to the Braves for Brett Butler and Brook Jacoby. It was a good trade for the Indians.
Butler would spend the next four seasons as the Indians starting centerfielder and would hit .288/.373/.396 (110 OPS+), averaging 5 HR and 41 stolen bases a season. He was easily one of the best lead-off hitters in the game. The Indians lost him to Free Agency in 1988 to the Giants, but he continued to be one of the better hitters in the game. From 1988-1995 he would hit .299/.391/.380 (118 OPS+), averaging 4 HR and 38 SB a season. During this period he got his only All-Star nod, in 1991 with the Dodgers.
