Bryan Lavastida (2018, 15th round) is one of my favorite prospects in the Cleveland system. This past season he hit .289/.380/.456 with 9 HR between across three levels, which included 19 at-bats in AAA. The Guards thought enough of his season to add him to the 40-man last month. Good hitting catchers are always at a premium, though as an Cleveland fan its a little concerning what a premium puts on defence, which in Lavastida’s case is not quite as strong as his bat. Most evaluators seem to still rate Bo Naylor the better catching prospect in the system, and his defence is much more developed. So I could see a world were Lavastida is viewed more as a trade-chip. But its hard to not be excited about the prospect of a good hitting catcher in the Cleveland line-up at some point in 2022 or 2023.
