Grayson Greiner was drafted by the Tigers in the 3rd round of the 2014 draft out of the University of South Carolina. He made his major league debut this past season and hit .219/.328/.281 over 96 at-bats with the big league club. Good for a 70 OPS+.
- Coming out of college he was considered a defense-oriented catcher.
- In the minors, his bat did improve, highlighted by his 2017 campaign in AA when he hit 14 HR with a .759 OPS. Not bad.
- He ranked in the Tigers Top 30 prospects three times (#24 in 2014; #20 in 2016 and #22 in 2017).
Greiner will be 26 years old during the 2019 season. He is not really a top-tier starter, but he is certainly young enough that his bat may improve and he could surprise.
