My fantasy team needed some help in the infield in late June, and the Padre’s Ha-Seong Kim was available as a free agent, so I jumped. It was a good call.

Ha-Seong played seven seasons in the Korean Professional Baseball League before signing with the Padres in 2021. After a rough start in his rookie season, he has blossomed into a well-above-average middle infielder for the Padres. He has a nice mix of pop and speed and has the glove to play second, third, and shortstop.  As of late July, Kim is hitting .277/.371/.446 with 14 HR and 20 SB. He has the 27th highest wRC+ in the majors with 128 and is 3rd in WAR with 5.1. By either measure, he is one of the better players in the game this season.
