I am a big fan of signed books. I normally remove the signed page and toss it in a toploader (or now, more often, an archival album). Assuming it’s signed in ballpoint and the book was even reasonably well taken care of, the autographs are normally still bold. Both blue and black ink pop. And the best part is they can normally be found relatively cheap.
This is one of the new arrivals, Joe Morgan.
It’s hard to say that a player who is in the Hall of Fame, and nationally recognized because of his broadcasting career, is underrated. But, for whatever reason, that is what it feels like with Joe Morgan.
Joe Morgan made the majors in 1963 with the Houston Astros. Over the next 22 seasons he would have one of the most impressive careers in baseball history: ten All-Star selections, five Gold Gloves, a Silver Slugger, and won the 1975 and 1976 NL MVP awards. Morgan also lead the league in OBP four times, OPS+ twice, and walks three times. He retired with a line of .271/.392/.427, and his 100.4 career WAR put him 30th all time, though there is a good chance Albert Pujols (99.7) will pass him at some point.
