New Arrival: Kevin Pillar, of, Toronto Blue Jays

Kevin Pillar is not a terrible player. He is not great, but you could do a whole lot worse.

This season he hit .252/.282/.426 with 15 HR–good for an OPS+ of 93. His defense in centerfield is good, though this year he seemed to lose a step. At 30 it would not be the most surprising thing in the world to see him slow down a little.

One complaint I have heard from Blue Jays fans is that he is an “all out, all the time” kind of player. Generally, that is not bad, but the turf in Toronto is not easy on the body…and anyone who ever followed Grady Sizemore during his playing days knows what happens when the human body is repeatedly crashed into things.

Finding a league average centerfielder is never an easy thing and the Blue Jays have much bigger issues than trying to find a replacement for Pillar. As long as his bat stays something near league average he should stick around in the Toronto line-up.
