- Mike Papi was drafted by the Indians in the 1st Round of the 2014 draft out of the University of Virginia.
- He was considered one of the most polished bats available in the draft and was expected to move quickly through the system.
- He has managed to get on base at an excellent clip throughout his time in the organization but has not really shown the contact skills or power that you want in a corner infielder/outfielder. Though he still has some pop, with 12 HR between AA and AAA last season.
- This season he is hitting .263/.395/.444 in AAA, with 5 HR.
I am not sure what the plan with Papi is moving forward. He is 25 and clearly has lost some prospect shine. But the dude gets on base and seems to have enough pop to keep pitchers honest. I don’t think he is a long-term answer for the Indians outfield, but I certainly think he should get a chance to get some at-bats in the majors at some point this season or next.
