When Mike Redmond signed with Cleveland for the 2010 season, I was pretty excited. I have to think there were not too many Cleveland fans who felt that way. I had been following Redmond for years since he was a young catcher with the Marlins. He was never a starter, but he was a solid #2 catcher who also had insanely good platoon numbers against lefties. In his career, Redmond had a .645 OPS+ against righties, but a .802 OPS against southpaws. So not only was he a good #2 catcher, but in the right situations a fantastic bat off the bench. And for that reason, he was always on my simulated baseball roster on MVP Baseball.

Mike Redmond’s time in Cleveland was forgettable. He was 39 and in the last of his 13 seasons in the majors. He hit .206 in 68 at-bats and was released in July 2010. He still is the record holder for most consecutive games at Catcher without an error, at 232. So that is cool. Following his retirement, he would quickly move into coaching and was the head coach for the Marlins from 2013-2015.
