I was not really thrilled when the Indians drafted Benson, since some scouts questioned his hitting tool and he would be a project. I am risk averse.
But…I guess that is silly. If the Indians would have taken a polished college bat I would have been complaining about how we have another Tyler Nanquin or Trevor Crowe…so what do I know. With risk comes reward. So Benson. Good pick.
He did not have a bad season in Low-A. He hit .238/.347/.475 with 10 HR. He struck out a lot–80 times–but he also peppered in 30 walks, so that is good. His numbers are even better when you factor in that he was doing it as a 19-year-old and two years young than the league average.
Lake County should have a fun team in 2018, with both Benson and Nolan Jones in the middle of the line-up.
I snagged this card for $7. Not bad.
