Will Brennan was drafted by Cleveland in the 8th round of the 2019 draft out of Kansas State. He was a decent prospect coming out of college, with good outfield defense and great on-base skills. But he did not have a ton of pop, so his ability to limit strikeouts and get on-base would have had to carry him in professional ball. And…they have.
Since being drafted Brennan has done nothing but hit. Over four minor league seasons, he has a career .296 AVG and .367 OBP. This season, with AAA-Columbus, he hit .316 with a .367 OBP and hit a career-high nine homers. The spike in power got people’s attention, and in mid-2022 he started popping up on Top 25 prospect lists for the organization.
These numbers also got the Cleveland brass’s attention and Brennan a call-up to the big leagues. And guess what? Over his first 27 at-bats he is hitting .333/.400/.333. And he hit his first career MLB homer today, a three-run shot against Kansas City.
