Austen Williams played three seasons at Texas State before being drafted in the 6th round of the 2014 draft by the Nationals.
Coming out of college he was projected to be a reliever.
He has had some nice seasons in the minors, the highlight being his 2015 campaign when he went 12-8 with a 2.58 ERA/1.103 WHIP between low-A, High-A and one AAA start.
His 2015 was good enough to get him onto some Top 20 Nationals prospect lists.
He has had a rough time of it the last two seasons and has yet to punch through to AAA.
The scouting reports I read said that he has at least two decent pitches and is not afraid to work in the zone. Coupled with his maturity on the mound I think that his original projection as a pen arm might come back into play.
